Elizabeth Huggins

Elizabeth was born on January 22nd, 1805 in Kentucky, in the United States to unknown parents.

She married James McLaughlin on October 17th, 1823 in Marion, Indiana when he was twenty one and she was eighteen. They had thirteen children together.

Their first child, Nancy Elizabeth, was born on May 11th, 1926 in Marion County, IN.

Their second child, Joseph, was born on June 5th, 1830 in Indiana.

Their third child, Anna Elizabeth, was born on December 16th, 1830 in Indianapolis, IN.

Their fourth child, Lavina, was born about January 19th, 1832 in Indiana.

Their fifth child, John D (or B)., was born on April 3rd, 1834 in Indiana.

Their sixth child, Thomas H., was born in 1836 in Indiana. He died on November 29th of that same year.

Their seventh child, Rachel, was born on December 26th, 1838 in Indiana.

Their eighth child, Annabel, was born on February 20th, 1840 in Indiana.

Their ninth child, Sarah, was born on March 1st, 1842 in Indiana. I believe Sarah died before 1850.

Elizabeth married and left the house on March 13th, 1843 at the age of sixteen.

Their tenth child, James, was born on November 22nd, 1844 in Indiana.

Their eleventh child, Zachariah T., was born on May 22nd 1847 in Indiana.

In 1850 they lived in Perry, IN with eight children; Joseph, Lavina, John, Thomas, Rachael, Annabel, James, and Zach, and a 19 year old Elnora (niece?). James and his two oldest boys, Joseph and John, were working the farm which was valued at $1000. There is no mention of Anna on this census, although she shows up in the 1960 census.

Their twelfth child, Calvin B., was born on February 9th, 1851 in Indiana.

Their thirteenth and last child, Eliza, was born in 1851 in Indiana. Calvin and Eliza were probably twins.

In 1860 they still lived on the farm in Perry, IN with five children; Anna, Zach, Calvin, Eliza and James*, and a three year old named Charles P. Arnold. Their next door neighbors were John and Nancy McLaughlin. I believe this was their son and his wife. The property was now valued at $3,400.

In 1870 they were still on the farm in Perry, IN with three children; Zach, Calvin and Eliza, twelve year old Charles Arnold and 71 year old Susan Cerby. Zach and Calvin were farm hands and Eliza was a weaver. The farm was now valued at $6,900. Charles and Susan's occupations/descriptions are unreadable.

James died on June 4th, 1880 at the age of seventy eight.

Elizaeth died on June 22nd, 1885 at the age of eighty.

*James Jr. is listed as being only seven years old in the 1860 census, but he was listed as a seven year old in the 1850 census. I believe the census taker mis-heard or mis-wrote his age in 1860 as it should have been seventeen.
