Karen Nilsen

Karen was born on October 27th, 1835 in kiola Nongw, Elsta, Sweden to Ole Nilsen and Karin Person.

Karen married Ole Erickson some time around 1861 when he was twenty five and she was twenty six*, most likely in Christiana, Norway.

Their first child, Nickoli, was born on March 21st, 1862 in Christiania, Norway.

Their second child, Caroline, was born on December 14th, 1864 in Christiania. She died on April 5th, 1866 at sixteen months old.

Their third child, Eliza Josephine, was born on January 11th, 1867 in Christiania.

Their fourth child, Olof William, was born on March 23rd, 1869 in Christiania.

Nickoli died in December of 1869 when he was seven years old.

Their fifth and last child, Katrinka "Katie" Maria, was born on April 4th, 1875 in Christiania.

They arrived in the United States on July 7th, 1877 aboard the "Wisconsin" when Ole was forty one years old and Karen was thirty five. Their four youngest children were with them. Their oldest had died a few years before at the age of seven. They sailed from Liverpool, England, stopped in Queenstown, Ireland and arrived in New York.

They traveled overland from New York to Utah. We don't know anything about their journey, or when they arrived.

She died on April 23rd, 1896 in Sandy, UT and was buried at the Sandy City Cemetery.

*The passenger list from their 1877 voyage shows Karen as being six years younger than Ole, so she may have been only twenty at the time of the marriage.
