Samuel Heber Crump

Samuel was born on December 24th, 1867 in Herriman, Utah, in the United States to William Charles Crump and Margaret Ann James. He was the seventh of eight children, three girls and five boys.

In 1870 when he was two years old he lived with his parents and six older siblings in West Jordan, UT. His father was a farmer, and their property had a listed value of $100.

He married Olive Jeanette "Nettie" Butterfield on January 1st, 1896 in Salt Lake City, UT when he was twenty eight years old, and she was twenty two.

Their first child died at birth.

Their second child, Heber Asahel, was born on September 1st, 1896 in Herriman, UT. He was born prematurely and according to my grandmother (his daughter) he wasn't expected to live. He was bundled up in blankets and put in a basket next to the kitchen stove for warmth. He did survive, but was always a small child. He had asthma and was often ill.

Their third child, James Edward, was born on September 8th, 1898 in Herriman and died at birth.


In 1900 they lived in Herriman, UT with young Heber. Samuel worked as a day laborer.

Their fourth child, Elizabeth Emma, was born on April 7th, 1902 in Herriman.

Their fifth child, Willard Glen, was born on September 14th, 1905 in Herriman.

Their sixth and last child, DeLos Dean, was born on June 26th, 1909 in Herriman.

In 1920 at the age of fifty two Heber and Olive lived in Precinct 9 of Salt Lake County with their four children. He was a laborer and they owned their home free of mortgage.

In 1936 he and Olive lived in Herriman, UT



He died on August 9th, 1948 in Salt Lake City, UT when he was eighty years old and was buried in the Herriman Cemetery in Herriman, UT.
