Wilhelm was born on December 17th, 1860 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in the United States to Christoff Ziegler and Auguste Luise Schmartz. He was the oldest of ten children, eight boys and two girls. The two girls were the youngest.
He married Augusta L Staeben in 1884 when he was twenty three and she was twenty one.
Their first child, Clarence R., was born in July of 1885 in Wisconsin.
Their second child, Garnet Audrey, was adopted as an infant. She was born on January 8th, 1898 in New York to unknown parents.
In 1900 the family lived in Minneapolis, MN. He was listed as an engineer (stat) in 1900.
He died some time before 1910 as Augusta had remarried before that year.
