Mary Ellen Fisher

Mary was born on February 4th, 1865 in Wayne, Indiana, in the United States to Henry James Fisher and Nancy Elizabeth McLaughlin. She was the last of ten children, seven girls and three boys.

In 1880 she lived on her parents' farm in Marion, Indiana with her parents, seven siblings, five nieces and nephews and a servant named William Mclaughlin who did farm work. The two oldest boys also did farm work.

She married George Elmer Nichols on September 16th, 1893 in Rennselaer, IN when he was twenty and she was eighteen.

Their first child, Albert M., was born in June of 1884.

Their second child, Nancy Jane, was born on August 31st, 1885 in Indiana.

Their third child, Bessie Lee, was born on January 19th, 1887 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their fourth child, Georgiana, was born in February of 1890 in Vernon City, IN.

Their fifth child, Harvey Leonard, was born on July 19th, 1891 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their sixth child, Estil Ray, was born on February 3rd, 1893 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their seventh child, Ava M., was born on August 5th, 1894 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their eighth child, Harold Linley, was born on May 16th, 1896 in Indiana.

Their ninth child, Agustus "Gus" Rex, was born on April 5th 1898 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their tenth child, Gladys O., was born in August of 1899 in Indiana.

By 1900, George was listed as a farmer and they lived in Vernon, Indiana with their children, Albert M., twins Nancy Jane and Bessie Lee, Georgiana, Harvey Leonard, Estil R, Ava M., Harold L., Agustus Rex and Gladys O.

In 1920 she was fifty five years old. They lived in Mitchell Ward 3, Davison, South Dakota with three of their now adult children, Ava, Harold and Gladys. George was working as a house carpenter.

In 1930 they were still in Mitchell, SD, although all of their children had left the house, and George was still working as a carpenter. 

Mary died on April 7th, 1934 at age seventy in Davison, South Dakota and was buried in the Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell, South Dakota.
