Nancy Elizabeth McLaughlin

Nancy was born on May 11th, 1826 in Marion Co., Indiana to James McLaughlin and Elizabeth Huggins. She was the oldest of thirteen children, seven girls and six boys.

Nancy married Henry James Fisher on March 13th, 1843 in Indiana when he was nineteen years old and she was sixteen.

Their first child, Susan, was born on January 10th, 1844 in Wayne, IN.

Their second child, Elizabeth Jane, was born on September 3rd, 1845 in Wayne, IN.

Their third child, Louisa Lorinda*, was born on December 3rd, 1846 in Wayne, IN.

Their fourth child, Minerva Case, was born on September 9th, 1848 in Wayne, IN.

In 1850 they lived in Wayne Township, IN with daughters Minerva, Susan and Luisa(?). There is no mention of Elizabeth, who would have been fourteen. Henry's occupation is unreadable.

Their fifth child, Joseph, was born on July 18th, 1850 in Wayne, IN.

Their sixth child, Benjamin Franklin, was born on October 18th, 1853 in Wayne, IN.

Their seventh child, James H., was born on October 1st, 1855 in Wayne, IN.

Their eighth child, Rebecca Annabell, was born on November 8th, 1858 in Wayne, IN.

In 1860 they lived in Washington Township, IN with six of their children; Lorinda, Minerva, Joseph, Benjamin, James and Rebecca. Henry was a farmer, and their property was valued at $3,000.

Their ninth child, Eliza Jane, was born on August 8th, 1861 in Wayne, IN.

Their tenth and last child, Mary Ellen, was born on February 4th, 1865 in Wayne, IN. 

In 1870 they lived in Washington Township, IN with six of their children. Henry was still a farmer and their property was now valued at $12,000.

In 1880, Henry and Nancy lived in Marion IN with eight of their children, five grand children and one "servant" who helped work the farm along with his two oldest sons. He was probably a relative as his name was William mcLaughlin.

Their daughter Eliza Jane died on September 27th, 1880 at the age of nineteen, two and a half months after her only child was born.

Nancy died on Dececmber 20th, 1895 in Jasper Co., IN.She was buried in the Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer, IN.




*"Louisa" may have been a nickname for Lorinda.
