Sarah was born on January 16th, 1870 in Millcreek, in the Utah Territory of the United States to Samuel Lorenzo Howard and Sarah Jane Hamilton. She was the seventh of thirteen children, seven girls and six boys.
She was christened on April 7th, 1870.
Sarah had a fourth grade education. Her father was a farmer.
In 1880 Sarah was ten years old and the middle child of five living at home in West Jordan, UT.
Sarah married Joseph Samuel Henry Bodell on October 3rd, 1888 in Logan, UT
when he was twenty five and she was eighteen.
Their first child, Sarah Jane, was born on October 1st, 1889 in Herriman, UT.
Their second child, Joseph Samuel, was born on April 6th, 1892 in Herriman.
Their third child, Emma Virginia, was born on September 14th, 1893 in Herriman.
Their fourth child, Mary Myrtle, was born on July 13th, 1895 in Herriman.
Their fifth child, Marriner Lorenzo, was born on April 10th, 1897 in Herriman.
Their sixth child, Eliza Erma, was born on June 27th, 1899 in Herriman.
In 1900 Joseph and Sarah lived in Herriman with their six oldest children*. He was a farmer.
Their seventh child, John William, was born on December 11th, 1900 in Herriman.
Their eighth and ninth children, twins Mildred and Milton, were born on March 3rd, 1903 in Herriman.
Young Marriner died on May 27th, 1903. He was six years old.
Their tenth child, James Alexander, was born on December 6th, 1904 in Herriman.
Their eleventh child, Jesse Moroni, was born on October 20th, 1906 and died ten days later.
Their twelfth child, Elizabeth Fern, was born on October 21st, 1907.
In 1910 they still lived in Herriman with nine of their ten living
Children. The oldest, Sarah, had moved out on her own, and two of their
children had died. Joseph and their oldest son, Joseph Jr. were both
farm workers. Their daughter Emma worked as a salesperson in a women's
retail store.
Their thirteenth child, Editha Farrel Lovinia**, was born on January 14th, 1911 in Herriman.
In 1920, Joseph was fifty six years old. They lived in Precinct 9 of
Salt Lake City, UT with six of their children. He was still a farmer.
Their son, James Alexander, died on September 2nd, 1922 at the age of seventeen.
Their son, John William, died on August 11th, 1925 at the age of twenty four.
In 1928 still they lived in Herriman.
Sarah died on January 26th, 1941 in Herriman, UT and was buried in the Herriman Cemetery in Herriman UT.
*Another child, Farrel Howard, was listed on some records. I believe this was a mis-understanding of Editha Farrel's name. She used Farrel as her common name.
