Truman Wolf Nichols

Truman was born on December 20th, 1835 in Catarawgus, New York in the United States to Willard Gardner Nichols* and Elizabeth Jane Jewell*. He was the sixth of thirteen children, seven girls and six boys.

He married Mary Jane Davis on april 2nd, 1857 in Coshocton County, OH when he was twenty one and she was eighteen.

Their first child, Thomas J., was born in January of 1858 in Coshocton County, OH.

Their second child, Willard, was born on October 10th, 1858 in Coshocton County, OH.

Their third child, Henry, was born in October of 1859 in Coshocton County, OH.

Their fourth and fifth children, twins Addie "Ada" and Sarah J. "Sada", were born on October 8th, 1861 in Ohio.

Their sixth child, George Elmer, was born on March 3rd, 1863 in Coshocton County, OH.

Their seventh child, Mary Olive, was born on November 7th, 1865 in Ohio.

Their eighth child, Truman Franklin, was born on July 25th, 1866 in Ohio. He probably died before 1880.

Their ninth child, Timothy, was born about 1867 in Ohio.

Their tenth child, Henrietta C. "Nettie", was born on May 26th, 1869 in Ohio.

Their eleventh child, Dora Domaine, was born on September 3rd, 1873 in Ohio.

Their twelfth child, Maggie Madge was born on June 17th, 1875 in Ohio.**

Their thirteenth and final child, Margaret, was born about 1877 in Ohio.**

Given the ages and birth dates of their children, we can assume he never joined the army to fight during the US civil war.

In 1880, at the age of forty four, Truman and Mary lived in Oxford, OH with eight children; Sarah, Addie, George, Mary, Timothy, Henrietta, Dora, and Margaret. He was a farmer.

He died on February 23rd, 1899 in Kidder, Caldwell County, Missouri at the age of Sixty Three. He was buried in Kidder, MO.

*I have found records for two different couples named Willard Gardner and Elizabeth J. Nichols, both from NY state. One couple left for Ohio, the other stayed in NY and I can't get clear records on which batch of children belong to which couple.

**Maggie Madge, and Margaret may be the same person.
