George Elmer Nichols

George was born on March 3rd, 1863 in Coshocton, Ohio, in the United States to Truman Wolf Nichols and Mary Jane Davis. He was the sixth of twelve children, six boys and seven girls.

In 1880 his family lived in Oxford, Ohio.

He married Mary Ellen Fisher on September 16th, 1893 in Rennselaer, IN when he was twenty and she was eighteen.

Their first child, Albert M., was born in June of 1884.

Their second child, Nancy Jane, was born on August 31st, 1885 in Indiana.

Their third child, Bessie Lee, was born on January 19th, 1887 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their fourth child, Georgiana, was born in February of 1890 in Vernon City, IN.

Their fifth child, Harvey Leonard, was born on July 19th, 1891 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their sixth child, Estil Ray, was born on February 3rd, 1893 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their seventh child, Ava M., was born on August 5th, 1894 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their eighth child, Harold Linley, was born on May 16th, 1896 in Indiana.

Their ninth child, Agustus "Gus" Rex, was born on April 5th 1898 in Rennselaer, IN.

Their tenth child, Gladys O., was born in August of 1899 in Indiana.

By 1900, George was listed as a farmer and lived  with his wife and ten children in Vernon, Indiana.

In 1920 he was fifty six years old, lived in Mitchell Ward 3, Davison, South Dakota with Mary and three of their now adult children, Ava, Harold and Gladys. He was working as a house carpenter.

In 1930 he was still in Mitchell, SD, living alone with Mary, and still working as a carpenter.

George died on September 20th, 1941 at the age of seventy eight in Mitchell, South Dakota, in the United States. He was buried in the Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell, South Dakota.
